Experienced. Determined. Respected

Arbitration

Douglas Coppola has had the privilege to be retained as an arbitrator in State and Federal Court cases for over 15 years. He has acted as a sole arbitrator, a neutral arbitrator on a three-person panel, and a neutral arbitrator on a three neutral panel in hundreds of cases over the past 15 years. Arbitration parameters are usually negotiated privately between the parties and, by agreement, the arbitration panel does not know any private confidential arbitration parameters. The parties are free to have arbitrated any of the issues which they deem appropriate including liability only, liability and damages, and threshold issues. Arbitrations can be as brief as one hour and as long as several days. Arbitration awards have ranged from the modest amounts to millions of dollars. Arbitration is substantially less costly than even a non-jury trial in most jurisdictions, especially when you consider that expert and medical witness fees now run many thousands of dollars for both sides to litigation. Experienced arbitrators familiar with values on cases are professionally equipped to render a carefully considred decision. Typical arbitration cases offered for State or Federal Court venues include:

  • Wrongful death;
  • Construction Accidents;
  • Significant personal Injuries;
  • Premises Liability;
  • Product Liability;
  • Auto Liability;
  • SUM Cases (supplementary under-insured motorist claims).
  • Legal Malpractice
  • Breach of Contract

Doug has been privileged to be part of the Eighth Judicial Disctrict Arbitration Panel, WNY Trial Lawyers Panels, and has been asked to decide SUM cases for AAA. He typically arbitrates between 50 and 100 cases per year as a sole arbitrator or neutral arbitrator member of a three-person panel.
